Cars in German Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities reported they were notified by a individual who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police report initial examinations indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.

City officials said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.

A senior representative commented the attack left him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
